Last night we went to see Iron Man 2, again and as I walked out of the cinema to AC/DCs “Highway to Hell” I mused upon what other songs had ‘Road” in them.
- Crossroads by Bon Jovi
- Road to Hell by Chris Rea
- Road to nowhere by Talking Heads
- On the Road again by Canned Heat
- Thunder Road by The Boss aka Bruce Springsteen
- A13 by Billy Bragg
- Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John
- Abbey Road by the Beatles
- Road to Rouen by Supergrass
- Ricks Road by Texas
I struggled with the last three I must admit, Elton did make me wrack my brains for road songs from the 70s and I swear there is a Bowie track about Roads, heck, he sang about life on Mars, he must have a road song
And Floyd, Pink Floyd must have a road song too I am just struggling to think of them.
Then we have the songs that I know have road in, but I have no idea who sang them…
“Hit the road Jack”
“Take me home Country Roads”
“King of the Road”
and “On the Road again” or is it “back on the road again?”, you know the one, they guy with the harmonica… no? ok… that just leaves me with Drive, by the Cars. Not quite road, ok, nothing like road but it’s what we do on them.
And yes, Billy Bragg wrote a song about the A13, the road to the sea!
On that happy note, I shall leave you with Billy and the request that you leave a comment for the ones I’ve missed. Who knows, we could put together a ‘Couriers driving compilation album’
Sarah
PS Have rock bands got the monopoly on songs with road in the title?
