Good communications with your courier service

When sending your goods by courier you have more flexibility over the communications to that courier than you do if you use a parcel delivery service.

When you work in a fast moving manufacturing or production environment, or indeed a big business environment, things are likely to change quickly in order to keep the customer happy.  It’s essential that you can maintain the communications once the goods have left your hands.

Ongoing communication allows you to reschedule with your courier, even if the goods are on board the vehicle. It can also mean that the courier stores the goods on a short term basis so that you don’t have to worry where in the warehouse you are going to have to store a delayed consignment.

Talking directly with the courier company involved means you understand first hand or any rerouting due to traffic or accidents on the roads, that you can re-route to a different depot if needs be.

If you find you cannot speak to the courier company directly, it may mean they have subcontracted the work to another company – that’s ok if they have the same standards and work ethics of the original courier company, if they don’t then all sorts of problems can arise and the issues that you were communicating to the courier service you booked, may not be communicated directly to the driver or in the timely fashion that is needed.

If you cannot speak to the person carrying out the delivery, ask why. There may be nothing sinister in this, but double and triple check -  remember these are your goods on board – how will it look to a customer who is expecting a delivery if you can’t tell them?

There are most importantly some financial savings to be made – good communications means not having to pay staff overtime or have them hanging about, it means that your courier service is on hand for when you need them.

Keep your goods in trusted hands, your peace of mind and your companies reputation can only be enhanced by good communications with your same day courier.
