Cool runnings?

People need to understand what goes into delivering food and why sometimes a courier to deliver food is expensive.

If you used a refrigerated vehicle, quite simply it uses far more diesel to keep the items cold. You cannot overfill these vehicles, cool air needs to circulate in order to keep the items chilled, so what you may fit on one van normally, you may find you need two when transporting goods. Twice the vehicles, twice the cost.

Of course you don’t have to use a refrigerated vehicle, you can use cool boxes and ices packs. These have a shelf life too, and it’s ok if you are delivery locally, say one postcode, but if you are asked to courier 20 within the M25, then you could run into problems.

The Food Standards Agency is very helpful if you are not sure, and they cover the distribution of food too.

Supply chains need to keep accurate records of the items of food in it, from the place of origin to the plate. This enables them to establish the break in the chain in the event of something not being quite right with the food items. So, your food delivery supplier will need to keep accurate records and be au fait with all the required legislation.

So whether your food is ambient, chilled or frozen, you need to call someone who know what they are talking about. If you are not sure, I can happily recommend some people

Eskimo Express

Good luck with your chilled food deliveries
