2 days ago it was the 50th Birthday of the Postcode, Happy birthday :-)

For the courier or delivery person, postcodes are essential.
You want your freight to go to the right destination, a postcode helps make it happen faster, more efficiently. You want a delivery in a place that may not be on a map yet? The chances are if you update your sat nav often, it will find the post code and you can locate your end location with ease. *Whispers* Rumour has it there is a park bench in Westminster that has its own postcode so that the local homeless can receive their benefits.

This anniversary escaped me until I started reading @bizvits blog…

It’s fifty years since the first UK postcode was introduced in 1959!

A nice little factoid and one I’ll certainly file away under “useful gems for the pub quiz”… but so what, surely they’ve been replaced by that ubiquitous item of personal identity, the email address?
