To tag or not to tag?

Throughout the summer months traffic around Dartford and West Thurrock can get really congested. Being based only seven miles from the Dartford Crossing we frequently use the bridge and tunnel to get across the river.

Over the past ten years the traffic has dramatically increased.  To overcome the problem of increased traffic creating excessive delays, the operating company that manage the bridge and it’s toll system came up with the ‘DARTtag’ idea.

The DARTtag is a free to use service which allows you to cross the bridgeor tunnel without having to scrabble about for loose change.

Recent studies have proved the flow of traffic increases when using the DARTtag. The crossing company at one point introduced a single lane for ‘DARTtag’ car owners and this lane flowed freely, constantly. More recently they decided to no longer use this lane.

Being an Essex based courier company it makes financial sense for us to use the ‘DARTtag’ like most other businesses that operate business vehicles.  Why haven’t the crossing company  therefore introduced ‘DARTtag’ lanes for commercial vehicles of anything above a car size?

This would without question make traffic flow better and ease daily congestion at the bridge and tollbooths.
