How many times does a courier have to lose something

before you sack them for incompetence or negligence?

PA consulting is the private sector company that has lost this round of confidential information. The transfer of further data to PA Consulting on the project has been suspended pending the investigation. This on the surface appears quite harsh, after DHL lost 25 million child benefit addresses, and as far as we are aware still delivering government documents.

“If you hand out memory sticks almost like confetti to companies and ask them to do research for you, then you have to be absolutely certain… that the company concerned has put in practice procedures which will be just as robust as the procedures that I hope the government has followed” Keith Vaz

In the case of the courier company that lost the child benefit information, they do advertise on their website they have up to a 97% success rate. As Keith Vaz, MP, points out he hopes the government has followed the robust procedures put in place… an investigation may be carried out, but it appears our current government doesn’t care about our data, and is sloppy in its procedures.

We have always said, if something is valuable, in this case almost priceless, it should be delivered by a dedicated vehicle where the item, in this case a memory stick, is under complete control of the driver.

When you get cheap, sorry cost effective service, you have to budget for the repercussions if you lose it.

Even if your courier is insured, what is being insured the replacement data stick? or the data on it? and how do you put a price on that data? Is it time for the Data Protection act to be reviewed? a SME would get huge fines for non compliance, I think there should be some sort of fine to the government, perhaps suspend MPs expense accounts until they can get it right?

For confidential delivery services, with 100% success rate (so far) then look no further than your local confidential courier company, Arrow Light Haulage.
