Often people think that using a same day courier service is an expensive luxury, and for domestic customers that may be the case. For a business it’s essential that you understand the reasons for using a same day courier, before you start haggling over the cost.
2 years ago we had a contract delivery, were every week we would pop in, collect the freight and then deliver it exactly in it’s time slot at a local port. The company decided we were too expensive, and even though they had special requirements, they would find a cheaper option – and they did.

The vans that collected were smart and the drivers were ok. For the first month everything went fine. Then they started getting fines in from the port authorities for missing their time slots. In one month they had accrued £30,000 in late delivery fines. That far outweighed the small saving they were making. They didn’t long at the long term impact of using a courier that didn’t understand the job – that knowledge is priceless – it’s not just collecting, driving and delivering.
A next day delivery, a late delivery can make all the difference to a business customer. It can mean the loss of business, business not gained and contracts terminated. Same day delivery can make all the difference.
In the back office of a courier company, there are many things going on, diverting drivers around traffic hotspots, research, and communications to ensure that a consignment is delivered exactly how it should be.
Make sure the saving on the bottom line justifies a move, make sure that it is swapped for a like for like service. Make sure as the customer, you know that the expertise you are paying for is dependent on many things and that include the knowledge of how to do the job.
