What size van do I need?

Quite often we get calls from customers asking us “can we have a transit to deliver some boxes?” my immediate question back to them is “what size van do you need?” Often a Transit is the only type of van they know of. Frequently customers will ask for a van that is not suited to their needs its either to big or to small and each scenario brings with it its own sets of problems.

Arrow Light Haulage make a point of finding out weights, sizes and quantity of any shipment that needs moving so we can then accommodate the customers needs efficiently and also so that we don’t waste any space within the vehicle when it is not necessary.

Our expertise in load/vehicle matching will ensure that our customers will have the right size vehicle turn up at their premises and be able to cater for their goods without wasting space or using a van that is far to large for their needs. If you need to move 1 archive box you don’t need to order a Luton sized van that can carry 100′s of archive boxes.

Using Arrow Light Haulage and our knowledge will not only ensure the right vehicle is sent out to you but also that you are charged accordingly for the items that you need to be moved. This normally saves you money.

If you would like any further information on our load/vehicle matching techniques you can either call us  on 0844 884 3331 or email me directly  at kevin@arrowlighthaulage.co.uk with your requirements and I will deal with your query promptly

Ethics and a same day courier business

Do ethics play an important role in a courier business? To us it does. As same day couriers it’s important that we establish our customers needs and qualify if we can actually do their job for them. As I have said before there are some types of freight and cargo us couriers are not allowed to deliver, and we can help the customer source the right person for the job.

To us good customer service is helping the customer, even if it means passing the job to someone else.

Over the weekend I heard a story about a courier who charged people for express delivery but then put the item through the parcel services. Express and Parcel services are completely different types of service and to us, that’s not ethical. They were charged Express rates and got a parcel service and the courier company pocketed the difference.

Then there are the customers who want to have items delivered expressly but only pay parcel rates. Because they don’t understand the services. On our website we have a description of courier services from same day to white glove, so you can read the difference.

If you are still not sure then pick up the phone and we can have a chat, ethical and not only that, we will advise you on what’s best for your business not our business.

What are your views on couriers and ethics?

A quick guide to packaging your parcel for parcel networks

Lush (company)Image via WikipediaWhen time is money, the parcel networks work swiftly and work on volume.
You may only send one package a year, but if it doesn’t get delivered, it can be a total nightmare!
It may also cost you twice, and you need to check you are insured for the right amount, as if you are under-insured, you may not be able to make a successful claim.

If you are sending a package via parcel delivery, the rules are extremely different from those you will find when sending materials via Royal Mail. If you want your package to make its destination on time or even at all you have to follow the rules implicitly, there is no margin for error. To keep your package en route and out of the undeliverable cage, follow these simple rules:

Always use the correct packaging for your item. Seal your package with 48mm or 50mm wide sealing tape and double pack heavy items, so the boxes don’t split Never use damaged or non-standard packaging materials they mat not be strong enough. If recycling packaging, make sure it can do the job it’s being ask to do.

Dont send dangerous or prohibited goods -  the rules vary from organisations, but as a general guideline you shouldnt try to send drugs, people, explosives, etc. If you think it could get you into trouble with the law, it will.

Use special care with fragile items. Never allow fragile items to move around freely or bump into each other inside your box. Today I received a package from Lush and the contents could not move as the items were surrounded by popcorn!

Make sure to wrap each item individually where possible and stuff enough ‘extra protective packaging’ (see popcorn reference above) inside the box to keep things from sliding around. Your package will be tossed and turned in every way possible, make sure the packaging can withstand this.

Always put the correct and full address and post code on the box. Write it on to prevent to the label being torn off. If you don’t list all of the vital information, your package will be undeliverable. Chances are, neither you nor the recipient will ever see it again, unless you turn up a local auction house that just happens to be auctioning off undeliverable parcels.

If you dont accurately complete the paperwork and declarations, your package will be delayed, maybe indefinitely. Remember, it only takes one slip up to get your package kicked off the delivery route.

Eliminate frustration and delay, by doing it the Arrow light Haulage way :-) .

If it’s vital it gets there, then an express or dedicated courier is the only way to go. They may be more expensive, but if they are as good as us, you won’t be paying fuel surcharges or redelivery charges.
