A tweet up with extras!

On Saturday we took a drive over to Great chart in Kent to meet some fellow twitter users.

Our venue was the public house owned by @hoodenershorse where he serves a selection of real ale and Mexican food. We found the venue easy enough and although there isn’t a car park, there was ample parking on the street (which may have been partly due to the heavy rain).

Inside we were warmed greeted by @NikkiPilkington @BabsSaul @LeighQuantrill and @hoodenershorse. We were just waiting for @zrushforth to arrive before we ordered lunch.

Andy recommended the steak and chicken fajitas as fajitas are Kevs fave, although Kev insists on calling them Fah Jee Tas just to wind me up. The steak and chicken were served up on sizzling skillets with a pot of tortillas, which the girls promptly dived into.

After a really lovely lunch (home made chips are to die for) it was time for some cup cakes made by fellow tweeter @SallyHBewsey I have to say, these cupcakes were works of art. The children started a war over them and who would have the one with a dog on it. I had a delicate one with revels and chocolate sauce. I turned it upside down and it confirmed to me our original thoughts on delivering cupcakes – they are to fragile to go through the post :-) but incredibly delicious to eat.

Andy is a genial host and I forgive him for telling me how to wrap my fajitas, he obviously thought as we lived in Essex we didn’t have a clue :-) . Hoodeners Horse is a lovely old fashioned pub with regulars who return even when they are dead! You may think it’s the wind blowing the door open, its not -  it’s ghosts ;-) . Andy may convince you differently but I think my theory adds even more to the charm of the pub :-) .

As you can see, we had a veritable feast of lovely food, served in a pleasant environment by smiling staff. If you are in or near Great Chart in Kent, drop in for some lunch and say hi to Andy and Jacqui. Its a treat for your tastebuds.

The  rest of the company was superb as always :-)

Courier hub services

The ‘Hub and Spoke’ system is how many next day courier and parcel courier services work. All the items are collected and delivered into a central hub and then the drivers become the ‘spokes’ delivering outbound to the customers.

This system works well when you have a lot of cargo or freight to be delivered in  a local area.

Boxes, lots of boxes

We operate two hub systems, one in Basildon Essex where items come in from various locations around the county and are then sifted and sent out again. The other hub we operate is in Kent, it does exactly the same as the Essex hub but in the Kent area.

Why do courier hubs work?

Courier hubs work for two reasons, one is a mass  sorting and sifting system that a parcel carrier uses. They operate most effectively on volume. Low cost, high volume parcel delivery.

The second reason a hub works is based on a local hub system, this is ideal for companies with a large consignment of freight that is destined to go to certain areas. These are dropped into a local depot and sifted and despatched via the spoke system.  Local courier hubs are fantastic for fragile items where in the parcel system they risk breakage, the local hub virtually eliminates this. The local hubs can often place their hands on the item you are looking for within minutes, a parcel hub it can take longer.

It’s a question of working out which service, is best for the items you are moving. Cargo or freight in the wrong courier hub system, will mean more breakages and damage so it’s essential you talk to your courier company and decide what is best for the type of goods you want delivering.

Thank you for the hospitality

Twice recently my express courier company Arrow Light Haulage was the guest of Road Traffic Solicitors in Kent, Kaslers.

The first time we went shooting.I had never been shooting before and Sarah was quite jealous and spent weeks inventing reasons for me not to go. I was onto her tactics though ;-) To be honest I half expected solicitors and couriers with guns to be a recipe for disaster ;-) but it was an incredibly fun day out and I tried something different. I really enjoyed it. I also got to chat with Laury Burr and Chris Lodge again.

More recently The Road User Benefit Scheme founder members of which my company is part of, was invited to a transport industry networking event, again by Kaslers.

Our Family080

This was a great afternoon where I spent some more time getting to know Michael Breeze and Chris Lodge better, both are great company.

So thank you Michael, Chris and Kaslers for your generous hospitality. Spending this time with you made me aware that you have the drivers interests at heart, and you really are the best people for the job when it comes to road traffic accident advice. The depth of knowledge held by the team at Kaslers is unrivaled.

Regards

Kevin
