Taking delivery of my iPhone

Yesterday my iPhone was delivered. After seeing friends one in November, I decided to take the plunge and get one – it didn’t look that complicated and much of the support aspect of our own courier business takes place online, so I thought I’d get one.

It was delivered by DPD. The delivery aspect itself was very interesting, our house has a name and not a number, but the driver located us. :-)
He walked up the path, tapped on the door and then walked away. :-(

Sarah saw this happen and chased him and then he asked if he was at the right place. We confirmed that he was and Sarah asked why he didn’t ring the bell. He ignored her. He confirmed that I was indeed Kevin Arrow, I signed for the phone, he grunted and walked away.

If the TV was on, we would have missed the delivery. The driver would have said he couldn’t find the house / address and possibly wouldn’t have left the card as he wasn’t sure. He wasn’t interested in making his delivery, he could have rang the bell but chose to tap on the door and walk away. He was focused solely on something, but it wasn’t his job or seeing the delivery went to the correct location. This would indicate to me he was an agency driver who had not had much training or an induction. As a customer perhaps I look to hard at the delivery aspect of getting my iPhone, it arrived safe and I didn’t have to chase the parcel company (Sarah did that, down the street :-) ) so a lot of people would be happy with that.

I guess I am too much of a perfectionist when I deliver and I expect everyone else to have the same pride in their own jobs as I do mine. No wonder so many re-deliveries take place at this time of year.

Parcel Couriers are the fastest option…

Courier Services Are More Than About Delivering Parcels Quickly (or are they?)

With the holiday season already upon us, it is time for online retailers to start thinking about getting their goods to their customers in the safest and speediest way. However, whilst delivering parcels speedily is an important concern, there are other things to bear in mind.

Cost is of course important; particularly as recovery from the recession is still in its early stages.

However, this can be used to your advantage of course. It is likely you have proposals already in your desk, but when challenging them remember that a cost reduction can compromise service levels.

You may not necessarily be able to get their rates lowered though; so ask for more for your money. Are twenty four hour help lines included for example? What about a personal account manager? All these things can be asked for. Remember though, it’s a two way street – be prepared to give a little in the form of guaranteed minimum orders etc.

But of course, delivering parcels safely is the most important (along with delivering on time). Be sure to fully understand what compensation measures are in place for any failures regards this.  Often your high value and most precious items are not covered by the insurance or the insurance is based upon the weight of an item.

Courier services perform extremely well by and large, and they are measured by their speed and customer service. They do not make a habit of breaking or damaging items of course; it just isn’t good business sense! But make sure you are covered in all eventualities.

You can of course do it yourself with regards delivering parcels safely to your customers too; by ensuring the products are well packaged and protected. It’s a nice touch for your best customers, but you will need to have a chat with Nigel Grainger about minimising your corporate manslaughter risks if you do.

Happy deliveries!

Delivering High Value Goods.

As a Same Day Courier company, we are often asked to deliver high value goods. All our items that we collect and deliver, we keep confidential but here are some examples of things we can move, that are high value:-

  • Fine Wines
  • Auction items such as antiques
  • Fine art and portraits
  • Photographic art
  • Reels of Film
  • Rare musical instruments
  • Fine Jewellery
  • Designer labelled clothes

Each item we deliver is tailored to it’s needs. Whether it’s careful wrapping in soft felt blankets (to prevent scratching) or strapping securely to prevent breakage.

Our drivers are CRB checked and have training in defensive driving. Each route is planned moments after we collect the item, so no one but the driver knows the jopurney to be travelled, and then we track our vehicles just to be even safer.

Our vans are unliveried, they are just another white van on the road, completing deliveries. Nothing we do, makes us stand out to potential theives and van-jackers.

So, if you are looking for a courier to deliver some that is fragile or precious, please give us a call and we can tailor a quote to your needs – 0844 884 3331

It’s best to give us a call so we can establish exactly what your needs are :-)

Sarah

PS. It goes without saying we have insurance to the value of 30k, just in case.
