Parcel Couriers are the fastest option…

Courier Services Are More Than About Delivering Parcels Quickly (or are they?)

With the holiday season already upon us, it is time for online retailers to start thinking about getting their goods to their customers in the safest and speediest way. However, whilst delivering parcels speedily is an important concern, there are other things to bear in mind.

Cost is of course important; particularly as recovery from the recession is still in its early stages.

However, this can be used to your advantage of course. It is likely you have proposals already in your desk, but when challenging them remember that a cost reduction can compromise service levels.

You may not necessarily be able to get their rates lowered though; so ask for more for your money. Are twenty four hour help lines included for example? What about a personal account manager? All these things can be asked for. Remember though, it’s a two way street – be prepared to give a little in the form of guaranteed minimum orders etc.

But of course, delivering parcels safely is the most important (along with delivering on time). Be sure to fully understand what compensation measures are in place for any failures regards this.  Often your high value and most precious items are not covered by the insurance or the insurance is based upon the weight of an item.

Courier services perform extremely well by and large, and they are measured by their speed and customer service. They do not make a habit of breaking or damaging items of course; it just isn’t good business sense! But make sure you are covered in all eventualities.

You can of course do it yourself with regards delivering parcels safely to your customers too; by ensuring the products are well packaged and protected. It’s a nice touch for your best customers, but you will need to have a chat with Nigel Grainger about minimising your corporate manslaughter risks if you do.

Happy deliveries!

When it all goes wrong – we still deliver

Wednesday was a difficult day for our same day courier and delivery business. It started off very well, two contracts were due to start and we were prepping our drivers with the new requirements. Two of our biggest ad hoc / express delivery customers were booking in jobs and we had all four of the fleet out, on the road.

At midday just before the new contracts were about to start our daughter collapsed, in a heap on the floor. We were stunned, she had been a bit quiet but no other indication that she was unwell.

It was surprising how fast the ‘emergency’ action plan (which up until now had just been spoken about) kicked in. Sarah took our most precious delivery to the hospital and I organised the afternoon remotely, using the phone and mobile internet. I could be right at their side whilst still keeping my finger on the pulse, thanks to the systems being in place.

Our new and existing customers are very happy – it was excellent service as usual. Our precious package was fine – she has flu and not meningitis as Sarah was convinced.

I was relieved, how do you know your emergency systems will work? no amount of dry runs can prepare you for the moment they have to be implemented.

I spoke to one of the new customers that day and she was laughing that I had been sitting all day in the garden getting a sun tan… I didn’t disillusion her and say where I actually was – it was business as usual, for all of our team.

Regards

Kevin

Delivering so you can sleep at night….

Being a flexible same day courier company is more than just picking up and delivering, its also about helping people out of difficult situations at a cost effective price.

Arrow Light Haulage helped out again today with a new customer that had been let down by a bed suppliers own delivery system.

We received a phone call at 1pm yesterday asking if we could pick up a kingsize mattress from the Kent coast and deliver it into central London  that day. Due to the weight of the mattresses, they are a two man job, something we usually need 24 hours to co-ordinate.

The customer had only just been told that this ‘next day’ bed company couldn’t deliver their purchase leaving them with nowhere to sleep for one evening!

Working directly with the customer,  we agreed a price that the customer was happy with and arranged our team. We collected within an hour of confirmation of the job booking. We called our customer to say we had collected and gave them an estimated time of delivery which was within 3 hours.

Traffic was good, so we got to the delivery point early and our customer was thrilled.

We quickly established what the problem was regarding the delivery of this item, there were 3 flights of stairs and no lift….

Arrow Light Haulage  drivers and porter did not see this as a problem, we got on with the job, unpacked the mattress, installed it and removed the packaging for recycling.

Our customer is very happy and is now going to recommend our courier and removal service not only to her friends but to her boss and work colleagues. We understand what a good nights sleep can mean!

If you have a problem with a shop ordered item and they will not deliver when you need the delivery to be made, give us a call on 0844 884 3331 or email me at kevin@arrowlighthaulage.co.uk.

We always go the extra mile to help people, no matter what challenges we are faced with.

Kevin
